True love, something everyone seeks but it seems that so few of us get, is it possible that it is out there, waiting for all of us? Or is it something we can only hope God will grant us? True love can be shown in many forms, it can be the unconditional love of a pet towards its owner, or of a newborn baby towards its mother, it can be the closeness of two friends, who know each other better than they know themselves, who always have the answer to every solution – even if the only answer they provide is a hug and some chocolate. True love can of course be what pops to mind, the relationship between soul-mates, full of romance, love notes, flowers and gifts. But what if, although the one most aspire to, this is the worst kind of true love to us, what if this was the kind most likely to harm us, to tear us apart? If people realised they could find love just as strong in their friends and families, would they still strive to have their hearts broken by ‘the one’? Of course they would, people relish in their own harm, they look for a soul partner, knowing that there is a possibility that they could end up with a broken heart, back to being ‘lonely’ again. Its what we call ‘being human’, we continue to search for something that causes us pain, in the hope that maybe, just maybe, this is the one that won’t hurt us. True love isn’t something given to us by someone else, it’s what we feel for someone else, it can only come from us and, although someone else may express it, we can only hope that they feel the true love for us too.
